Presenteeism and how it affects your employees

Presenteeism is the act of attending work despite being sick. There can be many reasons for presenteeism, including not being able to afford time off due to illness, having a love and devotion to the job, or having so much to get done at work that the stress and anxiety of taking a day off is too much to bear. Presenteeism isn’t always a negative thing, but when the consequences become unhealthy, it’s something that needs to be looked more closely.

Department of Labor Announced Proposed Overtime Rule

On July 6, the Department of Labor announced a proposed rule that would extend overtime protections to millions of workers. It would raise the annual salary level at which overtime pay kicks in from $23,660 (or $455 a week) to $50,440 (or $970 a week).

PCORI, the “Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute”, is a non-profit entity that compares the effectiveness of medical treatments. The Affordable Care Act has imposed a tax to fund the institute which applies to health flexible spending arrangements and HRA plans.
